Knitting brought me to the fiber arts
through a totally tactile experience.
As I began to appreciate different fibers and textures in yarn and how they “knit up” the slide to fabrics was inevitable.
The first dolls I made were all hand sewn using hemp and muslin.
A class in costuming and colour combining opened my eyes to the endless possibilities available through doll art.
Doll Art is a multi-media art form that can be expressed in many ways but, for me, cloth is always at the core.

Kali is the second doll that I made.
As my favorite Goddess she was my first to honour.
She has four arms, a skirt of arms,
a necklace of sculls and 3 cobras
as well as a severed head and a scull bowl of blood.
She is completly hand sewn
and her accesories are a mixture of
super sculpy, elastic clay, balsa wood and beads.

This piece was accepted into the
Grand National Quilt Competition
2008.
The Competition's last year at
the K-W Art Gallery at the
Center in the Square
This is a great honour as this is my 1st quilt ever. I think it was Grannie's fuzzy bunny slippers that got me into this Juried Show.

| Lord Ganesha This is my first award winning doll.
He made 3rd in the
Artist Level 1 Category
at the 2009 CDAA conference competition.
He cheated.
Typical for the God responsible for removing
obstacles from our path. I noticed when
I checked the math on my judgment sheets.
The other doll I submitted actually got more
points than Lord Ganesha but an adding
error gave him the award instead.
Who am I to complain?
