Dolls From 2010
|
Neptunia & Friends
 |
I read about a Milieu Challenge for Art Doll Quarterly.
In a frame, create an environment for your doll to enhance their story. Neptunia started life as Sardinia.

But she had a problem with the self standing idea
as her little fishy friends swing around
a lot and knock her over. |
So I gave her tentacles and made her a Sea Goddess.
The fish are glass and the seahorses are enamelled.
The water droplets are also glass.
Neptunia is 18" x 18" $350.00
I had just enough time to make her, photograph her,
box her and mail her to California. Wish her luck.

The Countess Gertrude of Groan
|
Lady Groan is a character from a trilogy of books;
Titus Groan, Gormenghast and Titus Alone.
Published in 1946 by Mervin Peake, these stories take place in and around a castle called Gormenghast.
This is a gothic black tale with very few survivors,
one of them being Gertrude.
She gets along with birds and cats
better than people
and is seen here with her good friend
Master Chalk, a white Rook.
Gertrude is a self standing
soft sculpted cloth art doll.
Her arms and legs are wired for pose ability.
She is one of the fist dolls I've made in which
her clothing is removable.
Her outfit consists of her underwear and stockings,
a pettycoat, the hip bustles, a shirt and silk skirt,
her overcoat and her shoes.
|
|
Her jacket was my challenge. I wanted something covered in nature.
So a few books on stump embroidery later and here is the result. |
 |
| The fabric already had the floral and vine print. |
I started by embroidering some of the vines to
begin the 3D effect then I added the leaf beads. |
Then I embroidered the insects using various
methods of embroidery and beading.

Now the coat is a wonderful collection
of snails, bees, dragonflies, beetles, birds, caterpillars,
spiders and butterflies playing amongst the flowers.
Her coat is trimmed in “fur” with velvet sleeve puffs.
Her skirt is silk and hemmed with flower petals.
and her shoes are brocade with wood heels.
Her hair is hand dyed red roving.
Master Chalk is made of white felt
with wire legs and feet. |

She is 16" tall $1800.00
